Topic: Early Families of Waipawa
Topic type:
Research by Carol Lambert into the early families of Waipawa and surrounding district. Her Grandparents Ancestors were First Pioneer Settlers in Central Hawke's Bay. Makaretu and Porangahau. Beside the Mountains and beside the Sea.
In 1874 the Jensen families emigrated to New Zealand from Denmark. It was probably two brothers aged 45 and 41, their wives and children.
They landed in Napier and proceeded to Makaretu - west of Waipawa.
The daughter Anna Sophia married Adolf Arpard Breuer in Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay on 30th. January 1875. This couple and their children moved to Waipawa in July 1887 as found in the Makaretu School records.
They attended the Waipawa Primary School and eventually married in and around the district as stated below - Annand, Lambert, Gray that I know for certain - all recognized local names.

Hi there. I am related to Mary Jane Abbott who married Frederick Lambert (d 1871). I was told it is possible that Frederick was the brother to Alfred and that he travelled from England with Alfred's wife Sarah and their young son. Is anybody able to give me some information based on this info please? Thanks Lorraine.

Hello there I have found a document that is a shipping record of Hemming Jenson 45, Ane Christine 45, Ana Sophia 18,Christian 13 and Lars 9.
On the Ship "Winchester 19th April 1874. It appears they paid 65.5.0 pounds.
It is not very clear but will take a photo of it and try to fix it.

There were two more brothers in this family, Hans and Jens Peter. I am descended from Hans Hemmingsen and I have photo's of the entire family taken in the early days in New Zealand. Also have photo's of Adolph Breuer and Anna Sophia his wife. I also have two very old family photo albums with lots of unnamed people who are possibly Jensen/Hemmingsen/Breuer and Bergersen families.
